Hunger and Famine-The Remedy

 vs
 Going to bed on an empty stomach is a nightmare that many wouldn't stand.  But believe it or not, thousands of Kenyans are used to it, and not just missing a meal, but going for days on an empty stomach.  The President must be bored of always announcing that food insecurity is once more a national disaster.  This is not the first or last time.  Judging from the present happenings, in future, the situation is most likely to get worse-if certain measures are not addressed.

I'm fed up with the government always claiming to care; begging for food from foreign nations and international bodies-to feed its masses. Isn't it just shameful to beg when you have plenty of natural resources at your disposal?  To put an end at this embarassing situation, certin issues need to be made clear to all.

First and foremost, farmers need to be educated on proper farming methods-soil management, land preparation, animal husbandry...  What's all the fuss about growing maize and beans?  Aren't there any more productive crops that farmers can invest in?  I understand that some farmers hold back from diversying due to fear of loosing their crops to thieves.

"If you have what everyone else has, no one will think of stealing it."  They argue.

Secondly, there is never a good and enough storage for the crops.  Its ether the farmes harvest nothing and die of hunger or, reap it big and loose it due to poor storage and lack of market.  Only then does the government take advantage of the situation  and buy their products at a throw away price.  I'm not trying to praise the past governemtns but, back then, even the poorest of peasant farmers had their own granaries.

Fencing one's property is as important.  Now that we have our forests securely guarded and electric fenced, why shouldn't be our own personal property?  Live fence for instance is easy to grow and requires less cash to buy, grow and maintain.

Consequently, nourishing your Agricultural knowledge on new technologies and practices is very rewarding.  At the end of the day, you can learn of the best crop that suit your area, the right fertilisers to use...   And in case you are worried of finding a market for your produce, let that not bother you.  If the market place is saturated, why not get a tender to a supermarket, learning institutions or even export?  You will be amazed that even the driest parts of the country like Ukambani and North Eastern have soils that can sustain various crops.

So, come next season, every farmer should have prepared and tilled their land appropriately, have constructed a granary, planted a fence, purchased the right fertilisers and seeds and be in the process of finding a good market for their produce.

Is it Time Kenya Legalized Suicide?

If this mother attempts taking her  life and that of her baby, should she also be prosecuted?
A few centuries back, acts of suicide were considered as a taboo in almost all parts of the world especially the African societies.  In others like Nigeria, it’s considered as abomination of the highest degree.  No law of the land allows an individual to voluntarily or involuntarily take their life.  Still, I believe that in Kenya, an exemption need to be made.  There would be a lot of justice in this country were suicide made legal.

Ever made a count of how many reported suicide cases you get to hear about on the news in a single week?  Now, what about of those that you never get a chance to hear about?  With or without the law, suicide is going nowhere.

I will never understand why a mere law has the power to force someone to be alive.  What is there to live for anyway?  To start with, every single child born automatically inherits a debt.  Most probably, this is the reason the government wants to save as many lives as possible in order to help re-pay the incurred debts.

If you need to take away your life, make sure that it’s successful.  If not, you will be arrested and sent behind bars for years;  that’s a total waste of some precious years you would have spent building the nation.  And if you think that the government rescued your life in exchange for a better one, you are very mistaken.  At the end of the day, you will meet your death at the hands of the unjust and inhumane police, get run over by an over-speeding MPs car, die of hunger or through tribal clashes and violence.

Were suicide legal in this country, I believe our economy would be close to that of Brazil if not China.  The government won’t have to keep on taking loans to feed us, sign treaties to guarantee us a better life or get funds to send us to school.  Since there’s no law governing how we ought to procreate, then there shouldn’t be a law dictating on how we ought to meet our deaths.

Bringing the motion before Parliament is not easy I have to admit, but I believe that if Esther Murugi was called upon to help, she wouldn't decline.

KPLC Blamed for High Levels of Insecurity in the Country

Other than becoming the person I am today, I wish that I had become a thief. There is no better and easier way of making ends meet than by ‘borrowing’ what you don’t have from those with excessively a lot.

Becoming a thief in Kenya is one easy task. Not just because you can bribe the cops to not act on any alarm, or even bribe your way out to freedom. The most significant contributing factor that has led to an increase in the so called insecurity is the KPLC.

There is a mystery between rain and sleep. If KPLC was genuine in serving its clients; then there would never be blackouts at night, especially when it’s raining. The rains have been on for over a month now, accompanied by thunderstorms and lighting. Thanks to KPLC, this is the time they feel that we need to retire to bed early hence turn off our lights upon the drop of the first rain drop.

It’s raining, there’s no power, its pitch dark outside, and the noise caused by rain makes it hard to hear the loudest noise. I have had countless people complain about robbery…blaming it all on the lazy government and the youths. Ever taken a second to pass over the blame to the real mastermind?

For the sake of your property, safety and better future; think and act wind and solar power.

Africa's Dictatorial Leadership

Ever wondered why there are so many African dictators?  Men who have continued to govern nations for decades; and it’s not because citizens vote them in; but instead use force and bribery to get in and remain there.

Dictatorship is most prominent in Africa…maybe because we were used to monarchies before the white man came.  But I’ve come to learn that once you get hold of something, even if its not yours, with time, you start to claim its ownership and find it difficult letting it go.

The recently created administrative posts in Kenya for instance now call in for more old people in leadership.  You thought that you could only have an old President or MP?  Wait till you see more grey hair holding the Senator and Governor seats come 2012.

I have no beef against the senior generation; only that I believe they should get involved in advising the young leaders and not fighting for leadership posts.  Why should you vote in for someone who went through a British curriculum, and even sat for an exam set and marked by the Cambridge University; the type that cannot even construct a grammatically correct Swahili sentence?  To them, the Internet is a mystery, being a global village is a menace and giving way for young innovative minds is a risk that our ancestors would never be proud of.  And forever we shall be; a backward nation.

Instead of these wiser guys sitting back, enjoying and having a good time with their grandchildren, they opt to live their last days on earth under stress.  And when competitive and rival youth groups invade their rallies and create chaos, they get a heart attack or stoke.  This is the time when your taxes come in; they use them to fly abroad and seek treatment in the best hospitals and hire the best of doctors.  Now you see why there can never be development in nations governed by the elderly?

I realize that the main reason behind all of these problems is; lack of enough nursing homes…  Here is the solution-build more nursing homes; and don’t vote for someone whose dreams are already outdated, unrealistic, or on the edge of dying.

Latest Kenya's List of Shame

I watched the local media bring a live broadcast coverage from Hague; keeping us up to date on what’s happening to Kenya’s greatest criminals; Criminals who incited us to fight and kill each other all in the name of power. As people locked themselves up in houses and churches; the criminals were hiring private jets to fly their families out of the country: Men who believe in the power of dictatorship to get what they want at the expense of innocent citizens.

As we fasted and prayed for peace and reconciliation, they distributed coins to illiterate youths to torch our places of refuge; churches and schools. And after taking away five innocent lives each, the youth bring home a kilo of meat, unga and several bottles of beer. Is any amount of money worth a life?

Nine months down the line we have hundreds of thousands of nursing mothers in camps…bringing up a generation without an identity

Hundreds of young women died in the hands of abortionists, and will have to live with STIs for the rest of their lives; thousands of graves lie on the roads, at the market place and in water bodies:-it took weeks before we fetched clean water without blood stains…

With not an iota of shame, they are at it again-spreading hate and animosity…they will pay for airtime on Radios, Televisions and Newspapers to be featured; and help you prepare for the coming big fight. No, you don’t have to watch that nonsense anymore when millions are dying of famine, so many are still homeless, the youths are complaining of unemployment and women complaining of playing the role of a mother and father…

Its time to turn it off, turn them down and hold your head high as you rebuild yourself, your nation and make a better place for the future generations

Tell me how Come

I have heard that talk before…ain’t anything as bad as a woman’s venom

If truly we are each others worst enemies, tell me how come-

We have been able to come up with our own Bank-KWFT-when men haven’t?

Isn’t the first ever Kenyan Nobel Peace Laureate a woman?

I only hear of women groups; and never men’s group…

How come we can have co-wives and live peacefully with each other when no man can live with co-husbands?

It’s only a woman who can breast feed another’s woman’s child…but how many men can take care of a kid fathered by another man?

Have you ever heard two female politicians wash each other’s dirty linen in public?

Don’t forget that we have a couple of women’s Universities…

There is nothing as good as a woman’s friendship; and nothing as bad as a man’s gossip!

Feminist Serenity Prayer

Serenity Prayer Part One

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Serenity Prayer Part Two

God grant me the wisdom to understand a man,
Love to forgive him,
and patience for his moods.
Because if I pray for strength I'll just beat him to death

Eight Wonders of the Bible

Proverbs 30:21
                       Under three things the earth trembles, under four it cannot bear up;
  • A servant who becomes a King
  • An unloved woman who is married
  • A maidservant who displaces her mistress
  • A fool who is full of food
Provers 30:24
                    Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise;
  • Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer
  • Locusts have no King, yet they advance together in ranks
  • Coney are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in crags
  • A lizard can be caught with the hand, yet its found in King's palaces

Say Yes to Smoking

Day one;
             Tens of smokers fight for space to get a puff
Day two;
             There isn't a soul at the zone...though you'll catch one smoke in the car while driving, another in his office and the other at the gents
Day three;
               A number of friendly idlers chew khat from the zone; greeting everyone who passes by
Day Four;
               The number of idlers doubles with their friendly nature interchanged with making funny comments accompanied with an irritating laughter
Day five;
             The smoking zone is back.  But, it's also a zone for abuse of other drugs.  Some call it the jobless corner but for the psychics; its a nascent sect
Day six;
           A young man is attacked at the corner, a student is mugged, a teenage girl raped and a school boy kidnapped
Day seven;
                Cops exchange fire with the 'smokers.' Two are shot dead, three severely injured as the rest vanish within the crowd:  All because we dared legalize the use of nicotine.
